Big rocks first… A lesson for life

Pebbles 2On the day I was diagnosed with cancer, I would never have thought that 9 years later I would be writing my first blog on this website and sharing what I feel strongly about… WELLBEING…

I suppose it’s been a life quest without realising in many ways…

You see I’ve always had a thing around BALANCE… where things are… well settled…

Being a Libran star sign it seems inevitable…  getting those scales level!

And what I’ve loved about meeting Claudine and working together… is our common passion to maintain our other ‘important’ life commitments…

I said to her just recently that we have been ‘filling our jars with our BIG rocks first!”

She asked what I meant by that and I mentioned a story I had read about it…

It was about how an expert in time management… asked his students if the jar (that contained rocks) was full to the top. When they replied ‘yes’ – he showed them there was still room… room for gravel… still not full… sand… still not full… water!

So his key point?

If we fill our life, weeks and days with the most important things first (BIG rocks) – there is still time and space for other things…

However if we put the others first… the BIG rocks won’t fit!

Somehow that story has always stayed close and reminds me of the importance of doing some first things first… to add some important rocks to each day… grandchildren ‘rock’, eating well ‘rock’, going to exercise ‘rock’, conversation ‘rock’, rest up ‘rock’…

It’s great for me because it supports my balance meter!

You see, balance is something that I haven’t always managed to achieve…

It wasn’t until 2006 when diagnosed with bowel cancer… that I seriously began listening to what my body and self was wanting… and that’s around the time when this new chapter of my life got started…

So what you’ll usually find as you follow my blogs are personal stories and examples around the subtle things that arrive in my day to day… that s-t-r-e-t-c-h my thinking and way of doing things… Oh… and yes, stretch me physically… I do love to keep moving and exercising too…

Love, Tricia
