Chakra dance… Movement that heals
For so many movements to music can feel therapeutic. Genie Lee Perron has been interested in holistic healing and the deep connection between mind, body and spirit for as long as she can remember. Chakra dance is one of those wonderful mediums…
Tricia met Genie Lee through Face Book after they both published books through Balboa Press… As well as an author, Genie Lee is a facilitator of many holistic healing approaches… one of those being Chakradance… Both Tricia and Claudine became ‘really curious’ about chakradance… and decided to ask Genie Lee a few questions about it… We’d all like to thank Genie for her message…

What is your personal experience with chakra dance and how did that come about?
I have been interested in holistic healing and meditation for a long time. That interest was heightened in 2000 when I was diagnosed with leukemia and my mother died just four months later. I knew I had to go within to heal. Sometimes meditation and quieting the mind can be challenging, but when I learned about Chakradance, I felt that it combined movement, which is so healing; music, which is also healing; and provides a deep and easy meditative experience. The people in my various classes are often surprised that they danced for as long as they did, since they lost track of time. Many gain insights, see colors or images and feel an overall sense of peace while dancing.
What has chakra dance brought you?
Chakradance has brought me a valuable practice that I do on my own regularly. It has also offered me a way to help others to find inner peace and to get in touch with their own inner being. The classes and workshops are a wonderful way to share information and provide a supportive group for self-exploration.
In what ways can chakra dance support others with their wellbeing?
Chakradance involves setting up a sacred space in which people feel nurtured and safe. This allows people to let go and flow with the music. By letting go and just dancing with the specially tuned music, people are able to reconnect with that stream of well-being. Chakradance works on all levels to really give people a sense of wholeness and balance. There are no dance steps to learn and there’s no right or wrong way to do it. We dance with our eyes closed to truly get into ourselves and feel the music. Combine that with guided imagery and we have a soothing, relaxing experience.
What would you suggest to others to get the most out of the experience?
I always say, “Come in with no expectations and just let yourself move to the music. Dance like nobody is watching!” By just trusting the experience and letting whatever happens be OK, people can grow immensely. The effects of Chakradance are cumulative, so by starting a regular practice of dancing, people are benefitting their minds, bodies and spirit.
What other message in general would you give people on their wellbeing journey?
Be good to yourself. Life is supposed to be fun. Nobody knows how long they have on this beautiful Earth. Make the most of each moment. Take time to reconnect with nature. Take time to laugh and play. When you do, you are far more productive in all your endeavors. Find time during your day to replenish yourself with some sort of meditation. Chakradance is a perfect modality to add to any self-care routine.
