The Mandala… The circle as a symbol of the universe
Meeting Margie Hann-Syme again at my local market, brought memories of how I had gravitated to her, four years ago … It was on a feel good day during my time with Mrs Chemo when I bought some of the amazing Mandala cards she had created … I still choose one of those cards everyday…
It’s a very interesting world … when you start talking about the Mandala … So Tricia and I visited her once again and asked Margie the following questions …
Thank you for a wonderful and inspiring morning with you Margie and also for the beautiful mandala you have generously shared throughout our cancer program… Tricia and Claudine

How did you get started doing Mandalas
Crying out for Trust & Heartwork when my soul bliss (writing) was misfiring after 10 years of being a published author. That (next) first step into the dreaded unknown. Stepping away from soul bliss was my “little death”. Within two weeks I undertook a mandala course without knowing what they were, & quit soon after. I trusted there was to be no education re traditional meanings though the exception was to scan Jung’s mandala research into the unconscious mind. Continuing my sole/soul journey, I learn about Trust, Heartwork (& more) through diligence, bemusement, spiritual obedience & surrender.
What have they brought you & how has that helped you in your life
My mandalas are multi-faceted, multi-functioning, multi-purposeful, not solely transforming my life but what a bizarre dance! They’ve partnered me through several emotional/mental tsunamis. Developing the Self is complex, drawing on a mishmash of apparent nonsense. The essential key for personal evolution is the willingness to accept the cosmic invitation when offered. The Self then falls into mystery & clarity (darn polarities!) After years of this ‘merging’ I stand to declare – when living with & from the heart something awakens within. Life still appears risky, challenging, intriguing & irritatingly unclear. Embrace the magic of transformation in gratitude & wonder!
How do you start doing your own mandala
IF you want more than a pretty picture… lovers of ritual will create ideal settings: otherwise no matter. During preparation: 1) ask for CLEAR connection with your In-dweller 2) ponder your state. Draw around a saucer if you haven’t a compass then gaze within the blank circle. It’s one way of preparation. “However it appears is perfect.” Ignore the inner critic complaining, distracting. Commence without planning how it’s to look (that’s EgoMind). Let the pen do its thing. Surrendering that way allows, somewhere along the way, sometimes much later, flash thoughts, unexpected clarity or much-wanted insight.
Do you have tips or insights to get the most from mandalas
A constant tip either with my magnets, gift cards, Dance of Life card-deck or personal mandala. Dr Emoto proved that water is a conductor of information, through sound, pictures, thoughts, written words, even feelings! Place a (dry-base) glass of water on your mandala. As its molecular structures alter in response, they form beautiful mandalas of their own. Drink the water. You’re 80% fluid so who can argue you’re not ingesting the ‘miraculous’ information cued within the design. Hint: families – jug of water on, say, Compassion.
Do you have personal stories of how the mandala has helped you/others
My early mandalas were crude chaos, ultimately calming to a patterned order. A friend asked ‘will you do one just for me’. How was that possible? Late,r I was bemused by her enthusiastic response. Two weeks later – ‘Margie, it’s time you knew what you’re doing” (uh-oh) ‘I didn’t tell you but I’ve been torn for months over a career decision. I looked at your mandala each morning over a cuppa. Today the answer came, clear as a bell. I’m so relieved! This is what you have to do, are going to do, for others. I hope that doesn’t offend you’.
Do you have any other message you’d like to share about mandalas
Two things I now know well.
1. The work of the unconscious mind is to convey messages, often in coded ways – each of us uniquely receiving & transmitting the information incessantly.
2. I accept I’m a conduit, transmitting this symbolic language (colour, design, number) and its specific, significant, pin-pointing ‘assistance-information’ for individual gaze & interpretation. Their intention is to effect shifts in habitual or obsessive thinking, opening unfamiliar pathways within, shedding Light (awareness) into the darker recesses (unknown/unrecognised). The recipient’sHigher Self works with mine – it’s a unified phenomena ensuring the best for you & harm to none.
